The Number One Site For Beginners
www.WhichGuitarSite.com Top 10 Sites For Beginners. Score 81/100
Justin Guitar.com
This is probably the best source of free guitar lessons on the web. Not only is Justing a very easy going instructor, but the quality of the teaching material is just great. The pictures are clear and well presented, and supported by good instructional information, diagrams and audio files. The other thing that sets this site apart is the way the lessons are actually structured. They are well though out and balance theory and practice, with having some fun by playing some simple songs. This site is a must for all beginner guitarists.

JamPlay.com
A very well established site. There’s actually plenty of free content here if you look around. The video and audio quality are very good and has a relaxed teaching style. Beyond the free content, this is a subscription site costing $19.95 a month, which when you consider the quality and volume of content here, this is great value. There’s also plenty of choice when it comes to playing different styles, and for beginner guitarists.

ABC LearnGuitar.com
This is a general site for guitarists with some instructional material and chord diagrams etc. However once you’ve experienced the video material from some other guitar sites, this may seem like hard work. So whilst this site may be useful or interesting on a general level, probably not the best source for lesson material for beginner guitarists. Also the links to the video lessons are just redirected to the Jamplay site, so you may as well just go straight there!

Morphis.com
Although there’s a good range of free content on this site, the quality is not that good, particularly for beginner guitarists. Having said that there is video material to support the guitar lessons and exercises, as well as just audio files. Certainly worth a look, but if you want to get serious about learning guitar there are plenty of better sites out there. Also the amount of ads on the page can not only be distracting but also rather confusing.

GuitarNoise.com
This is more of a Guitar Blog style site with plenty of acticles and general advice and tips. There are also some simple songs for beginner guitarists. The structure of the content is a little, well, unstructured! But have a look around and i’m sure you’ll find stuff of interest. The lessons and songs are set out with some introductory information plus the tab, chords and mp3 files. It can be a bit basic, but once you get used to seeing te informaton presented this way it gets easier and better.

Guitar.About.com
Whilst the About site is massive and covers just about everything, the Beginner Guitar section is actually pretty good. As well as the material online, you can also sign up for e-courses (guitar lessons by email). This site, like a number of other large sites, takes some getting used to as there are so many links, panels, images, and ads on the page that it can get confusing. Having said that the written and guitar video material is very good. Again this is a site to have a look at and spend a bit of time on. It may not be the ideal solution for you but i’m sure you’ll learn something new.

www.whichguitarsite.com. Tope Sites for Beginner Guitarists. Score: 65/100
Cyberfret.com
This is a site with plenty of free content for beginner guitarists, but you need a bit of patience to find it. The navigation and on page linking can have you bouncing around the site a bit, but it’s worth giving a bit of time to see if you can get something whorthwhile from it. Always useful are forums, and Cyberfret does seem to have an active one, so check it out. The real downside for me is the amount of ads and flashing banners etc, which make it difficult to concentrate on the site content. But hey, something’s got to pay for the free stuff!

Easy Music Lessons.com
OK so this site has little in terms of free content for beginner guitarists, but the tuition is well structured and the video and audio quality are very good. There’s also a free Guitar Scale Book to download in the Free Lessons section. Ultimately as a beginner you will need to try out a few sites and also invest in a few products to see which suits you best. You will probably not find the right teaching material for you at the first site you visit, or product you buy. But once you find something that works for you, it will be invaluable.

Mahalo.com
This sites is definately not short on content, particularly for beginner guitarists, and is nice and simply laid out so you can follow your way through a series of lessons. The instructional, audio and video material is very good, and well supported with images and graphics. The only thing is that because this site is not a dedicated guitar site then there’s links all over the place tempting you to click off the page in all directions! This is a good site as a starting point, but once you’ve gone through the basics it might be time to move on to another site.

GuitarTricks.com
This site has had a bit of an overhaul recently. It’s been going a long time and has absolutely tons of content. In fact that was one of its major problems. There is so much content here that finding just what you wanted was becoming a big problem. However they have sought to change this and put together a simpler navigation to access the content you want.
There’s probably the widest choice of guitar playing styles on this site, including Surf, Coutry, Jazz, Funk etc. There is also now a specific guitar course for beginner guitarists, which really takes you step by step though all the basics.
