Jazz guitar solos
www.jazzguitar.be Great for the Jazz guitarist. This site has this singular focus. LOads of background information on jazz guitarists, the licks shown as tab, and notation. What it really lacks is any audio or video to make it actually interesting! Editor comments: Scored a 7 from us. Good content, but the lack of mutimedia is a real negative.
No commentsMad guitar site
www.madguitarlicks.com Lives up to its name - totally mad site, but does have some free guitar videos showing shred licks, legato licks, and sweep licks. Beyond the free stuff, there’s a whole bunch of links to other products. Worth a quick look for the videos but not much else. It Scored an 8 from us, purely for it’s visual madness.
No commentsCelebrity guitar tuition
www. videoguitarlessons.com Bring a bit of celebrity into guitar tuition. There are some free samples of the lessons on the site, but really these are just previews, rather than actual full free lessons. But, still good to watch. Most of the content of the site is available on either CD, DVD, or streamed from the site directly. It could do with more to tell you what is actually on each of the DVDs.
Editor comments: Scored a 11 from us. All the sample bits of video are very good and you can certainly pick up some excellent guitar licks and tips for free.
No commentsFree Guitar Solo Course
www.guitar-methods.com This is a very new site, which is currently promoting a course on improvising guitar, so content’s a bit thin on the ground. In fact the reason it made it here was due to the Free Introductory blues guitar solo course. We tried it and thought it a good basic introduction to what guitar solos are about. This is one for beginners to guitar solos. The site Scored a 12 from us. Although the site is still lacking content, the Free Guitar Solo course is actually very good.
No commentsMy Guitar Solo
This site has plenty of content, but it’s not very accessible certainly for beginners. You may well find some good stuff here that suits what you need for guitar riffs, but it might also be quite hard finding it. I’d certainly give the site a quick look over but probably not too long!
Editor comments: We gave it 11, which actually i think was rather generous.
No commentsAccess Rock
The site is www.accessrock.com. No shortage of content, although the navigation doesn’t actually make it that eay to find. Although the guitar lessons are well documented, and there are images in some and also audio files, i’m sure this stuff would be better still with some video. But definitely worthy of a look around.
Editor comments: We gave it a 9. But with the addition of some video this site would score much higher.
No commentsPlay Guitar Solos
www.playguitarsolos.com Very simple and straightforward site. If you want to learn soem solos from specific rocks songs, and some great classics, then just check these out. At approx $10 a go, these are very good value. All the guitar solos come complete with tabs and both at Normal speed and Slo Motion. This is a great feature, and really helps you see what’s going on.
Editor comments: Scored a 15 from us. It’s very much ‘what you see is what you get’.
No commentsDolphin Street
OK www.dolphinstreet.com - A broad range of solo styles and techniques, and licks on this free site. The content is recently updated so there’s always plenty to check out. There’s also stuff on picks, pedals and otyher music gear. This should be one of your bookmarked sites for guitar solos and techniques. The site Scored a 14 from us. Actually on first glance we did not think this site would score so well, but actually there’s plenty of great content here.
1 commentFree Licks
Here’s the basic summary of www.FreeLicks.net. This is another site from Kris Dahl. This one is totally free with some really good content on both guitar solos and complete songs. My only cricisism would be the video files are too large and therefore download can be very slow at times. Also plenty of free backing tracks, which is great to see. It Scored a 15 from us, which gets it into the number one spot. Shame about the other ads on the page, which do get a bit annoying. If you got some comments to add please let us know.
